“….the scientist’s study of spatial forms and the artist’s creation of them are both human activities, and we can find a common root if we look deep enough. The scientist’s curiosity about natural forms ultimately leads him to consider how the mind selects and modifies forms in the processes of perception, and so to an examination of the sources of the aesthetic sense. And the artist who pauses to try to understand his own activities cannot remain content to regard them as “purely aesthetic.”
